TOWNVILLE, SC – The family of the boy shot and killed at Townville Elementary want a law passed that would require a police officer at every school in South Carolina.
Rebecca Hunnicutt says ‘Jacob’s Law’ would be in honor of her nephew, 6-year-old Jacob Hall.
She says they haven’t reached out to any lawmakers yet, they just want the bill passed.
She says she is open-minded to any solutions that would make school including gating off the school and the only people that can enter the premises would have to know a predetermined “word of the day” that would be sent home a paper form in the kids backpack every Friday.THE SHOOTING
The shooting happened on the playground behind the school and the shooter never entered the school.
The sheriff says the suspect got out of his vehicle and started firing immediately.
Townville Elementary does not have a contract School Resource Officer; however, the school is equipped with security cameras and a secured door system, according to deputies.
Hall was shot in leg and died days after the shooting.
Another student was shot in the foot and a teacher was shot in the shoulder. They were both treated and released.
47-year-old Jeffrey D. Osborne was shot and killed before the school shooting.
He was found dead at his home.
Investigators say Osborne is the father of the 14-year-old suspected school shooter.
They say he was killed by his son.
Investigators say the suspect went to the school after the shooting at the home.
