CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – One person is dead and another person was arrested after a single car crash in Horry County early Tuesday morning.
According to Lance Corporal Matt Southern with the SC Highway Patrol, the accident happened at 1:48 am. on Cultura Road.
Southern says the driver of a Chevy four-door crossed the center line, over- corrected, and ran off the right side of the road into a ditch.
A male in the front passenger seat was not wearing a seat belt and was killed. Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said 51-year-old Benjamin Julian Creel of Conway died at of multiple trauma at Grand Strand Hospital.
The driver, who was wearing a seat belt was taken to a hospital and transported to J Reuben Long Detention Center.
Jacquline Elizabeth Medlin, 49, of Conway is charged with Felony DUI Tuesday, but on Wednesday, charges were upgraded to Felony DUI resulting in death.
She is currently being held at J Reuben Long and is scheduled for a bond hearing at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
