MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – On Monday Tidelands Health broke ground on a new $11 million, 16,000 square foot facility in Horry County.
The building will be on Holmestown Road and it will house the MUSC family medicine residency program.
The MUSC family medicine residency is a 3 year program that will train licensed doctors in family medicine. The new building will feature state-of- the- art technology, 24 exam rooms, teaching and lounge space for residents, a garden, and a labyrinth for meditation.
“So our goal with this center is to provide better preventative care than actually getting the diseases and not needing to go to the hospital and caring for the population as a whole. The new trend in medicine is getting away from taking care of that one patient but what does the community need as a whole and provide services for that community,” Terrence Steyer, Chair Department of Family Medicine, said.
In the last months, Tidelands has opened a new oncology practice in Horry County and announced plans to open a new 46-bed inpatient rehab center in Little River.
The building is expected to be completed in Fall of 2017.
