HOPE MILLS, NC — Hope Mills Middle School students remembered their beloved coach and physical education teacher Tuesday night.
Michael Burks, 43, died Nov. 3, after his motorcycle collided with another vehicle.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol says Burks was thrown from his motorcycle after the driver of another vehicle turned in front of him. Burks died at the hospital hours later.
Burks coached baseball, football and track for 14 years at Hope Mills Middle School.
“It was hard because I didn’t believe it at first,” said Rakeem Baldwin, running back for the Vikings, the football team Burks coached. “I just didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t do nothing about it.”
Christopher Hamilton, 36, of Fayetteville was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.
