MURRELLS INLET, SC (WBTW) – The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office confirms the South State Bank in Murrells Inlet was robbed Wednesday afternoon.
According to GCSO Public Information Officer Alma Sierra, the bank, located at 4210 US Highway 17 Bypass South, was robbed at 4:11 p.m.
A male suspect walked into the bank and “exhibited a note indicating he wanted money from the staff and placed a suspicious cylindrical item onto the counter,” the release from officers said.
The suspect took the money and fled south on Highway 17. Officials say no one was injured in the incident.
Deputies were given descriptions of the suspect and a person matching those descriptions was located a quarter of a mile away from the bank and taken into custody.
Sheriff Deputies transported the suspect identified as Joshua Paul Santerre to the Georgetown County Detention Center where he is awaiting a bond hearing.
Santerre, 39 years of age, of Myrtle Beach is charged with one count of Armed Robbery, one count of Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime and one count of Threatening to Use a Destructive Device.Several GCSO cruisers and SUVs were seen outside the bank during the investigation. A News13 crew on scene said agents with South Carolina Law Enforcement Division were also at the location.
