CHEROKEE Co., S.C. (WSPA) — A woman received a prison sentence after she admitted to stealing a deputy’s patrol car at a hospital before a chase across three counties.
Court records show Kim Marie Dye of Gaffney pleaded guilty to grand larceny and failure to stop for a blue light.
Dye received a 10-year sentence for the charges connected to the theft of a Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office patrol car last September.
The sheriff’s office said Dye drove off in a deputy’s vehicle while the officer was investigating a suspicious person report at Mary Black Gaffney Hospital.
Deputies say Dye led officers on a chase on Highway 29 into Spartanburg County where she hit a Spartanburg County sheriff’s deputy and continued into Union County where she drove over spike strips on Highway 176.
No officers were hurt during the chase.
Deputies said Dye was treated for minor injuries.
The Gaffney Ledger reports Dye was ordered to pay nearly $8,800 in restitution to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office for the totaled cruiser and damaged equipment.
