COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSPA) -Columbia Police have arrested a man in connection with the kidnapping and death of a University of South Carolina student, Friday.

21-year-old Samantha Josephson was reported missing Friday afternoon after becoming separated from her friends the previous night.

Police say Josephson got into a black Chevrolet Impala shortly after 2:00am at The Bird Dog on Harden Street in Columbia. Columbia Police believe she had mistaken that vehicle with an Uber she had summoned.

Josephson’s body was found shortly before 4:00pm in a rural area of Clarendon County by turkey hunters, according to police.

An officer patrolling in Columbia spotted the vehicle around 3:00am Saturday morning and was able to take the suspect into custody after a traffic stop and a short foot chase.

Investigators say the Josephson’s blood and cell phone were found in the vehicle.

24-year-old Nathaniel David Rowland has been charged with Murder and Kidnapping, according to Columbia Police.
