GEORGETOWN, SC (WBTW) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly accident in Georgetown County Wednesday evening.

According to the agency’s website, the accident happened just after 6 p.m. on US-17 North at Comfort Lane near Moe’s BBQ.

Lance Corporal Judd Jones says the driver ran off the road and the car flipped several times. Midway Fire Rescue was also called to the scene and says both victims were trapped in the car and crews had to remove the door to get the passenger out.

The driver was taken to Grand Strand Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Jones says the passenger in the car died.

Deputy Coroner Paulette Radcliffe with the Georgetown County Coroner’s Office says the passenger killed in the crash was 16-year-old Jamisa Lewis. Lewis was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the cause of death is confirmed as massive head trauma.

Both the driver and passenger were wearing seatbelts.The crash remains under investigation by South Carolina Highway Patrol.
