MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue responded to a fire on Fairway Lakes Drive early Monday morning. Several townhomes are on the road, which is the Plantation Point area – between the Intracoastal Waterway and U.S. Hwy. 17 Bypass near 38th Ave. N.

This fire was reported at 5:39 a.m. Monday, and firefighters found a two-story duplex with flames coming from the upper level, according to Lt. Jonathan Evans with Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue. Firefighters needed about an hour and a half to call the fire under control, but firefighters extinguished major fire areas within 30 minutes, Evans said. Everyone in the home got out, but two people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Evans said. One of them went back in the house to get something and got burned he said.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

Evans said Horry County Fire Rescue is investigating the fire because the fire was in the county’s jurisdiction. He estimated the townhouse was a total loss.
A press release from the American Red Cross says volunteers were assisting multiple families who lost their homes. Five adults and one child have been given financial assistance with food, clothing, lodging and other essentials.
