A group of first responders in Dillon County received some peace of mind about the safety of their own homes while they respond to the needs of others.
Statefarm and Canary hosted an event Wednesday morning to present the program for firefighters, EMS, and police officers.
Last year, both companies toured the U.S. to donate home security cameras.
“We’re out protecting other people’s businesses, homes, and we got a way to secure our own now,” said Detective Monroe Herring, with the City of Dillon.
While working several hours during the day, first responders want to know their families are safe while they’re out serving and protecting the community.
“While they’re out protecting us, we’re showing them appreciation in trying to give a little bit to protect them,” said Statefarm agent, Brian Edwards.
In 2015, both companies partnered on a program called ‘Protect the Protectors’ to provide free home security systems. Most first responders tell News 13 they are happy to know someone was thinking about their safety.
“As much as we give back to the community, and help the community for them to give us security cameras for our homes is a big deal, considering some of the things we see. Especially with having two kids at home as well. This gives a greater sense of security,” said EMT, Chris Arnette.
The devices can monitor movement or change in temperature.
“My wife and I have talked about getting a camera before, so this actually helps knowing it can be loaded into the phone and see what’s going on. I’m grateful they’ve done this today,” said Arnette.
Canary and Statefarm plan to visit other agencies around the area in the upcoming weeks.
