MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Police say a Myrtle Beach man used gasoline to ignite a bunch of clothes on a kitchen floor and then ran from the home.
Myrtle Beach police were called to the scene of a fire on Stalvey Avenue on Sunday. Investigators used an arson K-9 to determine an accelerant was used to assist with a fire.
Crime scene officers located two gas cans, charred clothing, and an improvised incendiary device, according to the police report.
Police interviewed Terrance Anthony Herriott, 26, who told them he took some clothing he found in the garage and laid it down in the kitchen area in a linear pattern, according to the report. Herriott told police he then ignited the clothing by lighting a napkin and dropping the napkin onto the clothing.
Herriott said the fire got bigger than he intended so he left out the back door, according to police.
Herriott is charged with arson, 2nd degree, and possession, manufacturing, destruction of a device or explosive for damage, injury or death. He remains in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $150,000 bail as of Tuesday afternoon.
