AYNOR, SC (WBTW) – A child who was reported missing and found in a nearby pond, died of asphyxiation later that night.
Elizabeth Brown, almost three years old, was found on Wednesday in a pond near Annie’s Court in Aynor, according to officials. She was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where she died at 11:20 p.m, said Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.
Willard said the cause of death was asphyxiation due to drowning.
The child was the daughter of Horry County firefighter and EMT Branden Brown. Horry County Fire Rescue posted condolences on its Facebook page:
“The Horry County Fire Rescue family asks you to join us in sending your most sincere condolences to the family of HCFR Firefighter/EMT Branden Brown, as they lost their daughter Elizabeth earlier this week. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Brown family, their friends and loved ones.

A visitation for Elizabeth will be held on Monday, May 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Aynor. Funeral services will be held there on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with a precessional going from the funeral home to her gravesite at Aynor Cemetery.
Horry County police are still investigating.
