MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A judge denied any changes in bond conditions for an ex-Marine charged in a baseball bat attack near the Market Common area.
Ryan Allen Knox, 29, appeared in court on Tuesday, asking for a change in conditions for his bond. Bond was set in April at $200,000 for four attempted murder charges.
Knox hit several people in a brutal attack with a metal baseball bat inside an apartment near the Market Common area last month, according to police.
The defense attorney for Knox said Tuesday was supposed to be Knox’s graduation day from HCTC as a radiology tech, that he had a good record in the military and served two tours in Afghanistan. Knox has two brain injuries from the service, PTSD, and a Purple Heart, his attorney said.
Knox’s mother told the judge if her son makes bond he will live with them and they live within walking distance to the VA clinic.
However, victims in the alleged attack said they live about a mile away from Knox’s mother and they deserve to have peace of mind. One of the victims said it was supposed to be her graduation day today, too, and she doesn’t sleep with the lights off anymore.
The judge ruled no changes will be made to the bond as initially set. If the defense and state wish to explore a VA hospital stay, the judge said he would have no problem considering a consent order to have him transported by detention officers to the VA.
