MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A woman accused of running from police waved hello before the chase started. That’s according to an incident report filed by a Myrtle Beach police officer.

It started early on Saturday morning on South Kings Highway. According to an incident report, the suspect, Rebecca Brown Hammond, waved hello to the officer’s partner while both vehicles were stopped at a red light.

The officer reported he started noticing the suspect drive erratically, and at one point began spinning her wheels taking off from another red light. The report goes on to say that Hammond was “blowing her horn excessively at the vehicles in front of her… changed lanes improperly several times without signaling.”

According to the report, the officer turned on his lights and siren to stop her, but she increased her speed. The officer caught up with Hammond at one point, but she got away. That’s when the officer made sure dispatch was in contact with SC Highway patrol and police in Surfside.

Shortly after the officer was advised to let the other agencies take over, he was notified by dispatchers the suspect had crashed near Ocean Lakes and was taken into custody by Highway Patrol. There were no other cars involved in the crash, according to the report.

Hammond is charged with failure to stop for blue lights, unlawful use of a horn, improper start of vehicle, and changing lanes improperly. Hammond is also charged with driving under the influence according to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center website.
