DARLINGTON CO., SC (WBTW) – Someone made a mistake with a traffic sign – six years ago.

Signs are up at the intersection of South Governor Williams Highway and Lamar Highway in Darlington County – with the name Bennettsville spelled wrong.

South Carolina Department of Transportation officials told News13 the signs were installed in February of 2013.

We asked about any plans for fixing the mistake. SC DOT said they are in the process of ordering a new sign. “In reviewing the records, our local staff misspelled Bennettsville on the requisition for the sign,” said Ray George, district maintenance engineer

George said the new sign with the correct spelling should be installed in the next few weeks.
