An officer-involved shooting in Socastee, in February, was ruled ‘justified’ by the Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office Tuesday. As a result, no charges will be filed.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division had been investigating the incident that happened on February 8.
One person was shot and three officers were taken to the hospital after a police chase resulted in the shooting at about 1 a.m. on a Friday.
SLED interviewed officers and others involved in the incident as part of their investigation.
Officials with the Horry County Police Department say the shooting happened near Maypop Circle and Palmetto Pointe Boulevard.
The suspect was injured. No officers were shot. One officer does have minor injuries and two others were taken to the hospital to be checked out.
This was the fifth officer involved shooting this year in South Carolina, SLED reports, and the first one this year involving an officer with the Horry County Police Department. In 2018, there were 43 officer involved shootings in South Carolina. Not one of them involved HCPD.
