The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help as it continues a homicide investigation.
The department says deputies got a call about shots being fired. They responded to the 100 block of Old Tower Road off Carthage Road outside of Lumberton Wednesday morning around midnight.
When they got there, Avery Scurlock, 23, of Lumber Bridge, was found dead in a field.
Scurlock was driving a white 2016 Ford Fusion SE prior to his death. Deputies were looking for that vehicle after the discovery of Scurlock’s body.
On Wednesday afternoon, Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins posted on social media that Scurlock’s vehicle had been located and that detectives are working diligently to bring closure to a grieving family.
“This cowardly act has to be addressed and a person or persons will be held accountable and brought to justice”.
