Nicole Boone has been a part of the WBTW family since 1989. She anchors the 5, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts for News13.
Her job has allowed her to interview and meet people from all walks of life, including celebrities like singer and now author Gloria Gaynor, Darius Rucker and other members of Hootie and the Blowfish, Harlem Globetrotters, various Nascar drivers, Tom Cruise, and pro golfer Dustin Johnson, just to name a few. And how about this? During the Carolina Country Music Fest, Nicole’s adventures entered into the world of sword swallowing, where she pulled the sword from a famous sword swallower’s mouth.
One of her most memorable assignments includes a trip to California. She traveled to Hollywood for a special series of reports on the stars of CBS Daytime soaps the Young and the Restless and the Bold and the Beautiful. During that trip, she even appeared as an extra on the Young and Restless.
Nickie believes in giving back to her community. She takes time out of her busy schedule to speak to school, civic, and church groups. She enjoys participating in events for the Grand Strand Miracle League, American Red Cross, and other organizations. She also volunteers at Burgess Elementary School in Horry County, and the Coastal Animal Rescue in Murrells Inlet. In December 2016, she was a special featured guest as the Local Celebrity/Community Hero “Mother Ginger” character in the 2016 Nutcracker production by the Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre. In May 2017, she emceed the Miss Darlington and Miss Darlington Teen Scholarship Pageants. She previously served on the Advisory Committee for Francis Marion University’s Broadcasting Department.
Nickie graduated with a BA in Communications from Winthrop College in Rock Hill. She grew up in Roebuck, which is in Spartanburg County.
Before coming to News 13, Nickie worked at WGSE, an independent station in Myrtle Beach.
On numerous occasions, she has been named Best TV Personality by the The Morning News. She was voted Outstanding Participant of the Year by the Leadership class of 1995-96. Leadership Florence is a program of the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce. In 1998, the Reader’s Poll Awards from Five O’clock Friday publication presented her with the “Best TV News Anchor” award.
She received the Gold Ribbon Award in 1999 from the Pee Dee Regional Breastfeeding Coalition. That same year she served as Honorary Chairperson for the March of Dimes WalkAmerica. In March of 2004, The South Carolina Medical Association presented Nicole with the Television Journalism Award. The award was given based on a series of reports concerning the problem of Childhood Obesity. In April 2005, Nicole Boone received two awards from the South Carolina Associated Press Broadcast Awards contest. Infertility: A Count on Health Special Report (1st place Series Reporting, 2nd place Health Reporting).
Nicole was also honored by the Girl Scout Council of the Pee Dee Region in South Carolina as a “Mary Dean Brewer Women of Achievement” recipient. This annual event recognizes women who have demonstrated qualities of outstanding leadership and excellence in their personal and professional endeavors. This same year she was also voted a finalist for Best TV Personality for the Readers’ Choice Awards from the Horry Independent newspaper.
Outside of her busy work schedule, she’s involved with her two children’s activities. Her son attends Clemson University. Her daughter attends St. James High School in Murrells Inlet. Nickie and her family are members of Belin Memorial United Methodist Church in Murrells Inlet.
