LATTA, SC (WBTW) – A Latta police officer has resigned from her position after she was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
Charity Gurley resigned on Thursday, according to documents News 13 was able to obtain from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
Gurley was arrested on Wednesday night on suspicion of DUI and had been placed on administrative leave without pay pending an investigation, according to Latta Police Chief Derrick Cartwright.
According to documents Chief Cartwright provided to the justice academy, Gurley had three people in her car, including a child.
The documents also say Gurley told the responding officer that she had a 24-ounce beer and a half-pint of liquor before getting behind the wheel.
Captain Cliff Arnette, with the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed to News13 that Gurley was arrested around 11 p.m. Wednesday.
The reason for termination from the Latta Police Department is listed as “Resignation involving misconduct.”
Gurley had been with the Latta Police Department for six months.
