FLORENCE (WBTW) – The West Florence Fire Department responded to a home that caught fire from a lightning strike Sunday evening.

According to Captain Anthony Fox with the West Florence Fire Department, the fire began around 8:13 p.m. on Jefferson Drive in the Monticello section of Florence County.  22 firefighters were dispatched to the home where crews reported flames showing through the roof structure above the garage.  The fire was quickly contained and fire damage was limited to the section of the house where the lightning struck.  Homeowners alerted firefighters that the family parakeet was still inside the home and the bird was successfully removed and given safely back to family members. There were no injures in the fire.
