FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – The barricaded man who was holding another man hostage at the Travel House Inn in Florence County has surrendered to police.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office responded to a hostage situation at a motel on West Lucas Street Friday morning.

According to Chief Deputy Glenn Kirby with the sheriff’s office, the Travel House Inn, located at 2001 West Lucas Street, was evacuated Friday morning. The sheriff’s office SWAT team communicated with the suspect. Around 11:40 a.m., the suspect surrendered to police. The hostage is safe, confirms Kirby.

Kirby identifies the suspect as Mark Travis Jenkins and says the suspect is being transported to the hospital now for a mental evaluation.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team worked with the Florence Police Department and South Carolina Highway Patrol to speak with the suspect.
