Community members noshed on Valentine’s Day treats to support families impacted by Alzheimer’s on Saturday.

The Grande Shores resort in Myrtle Beach held a bake sale to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association Ride to Remember. The bike ride starts in the northern part of South Carolina and runs through the state, down to Charleston. Mark Gillis is one of approximately 400 cyclists who will take part in the Ride to Remember in July, and raise money for the organization. Gillis says the ride hits close to home since Alzheimer’s has impacted his family. “Alzheimer’s has been, it’s been an issue. As well as for many people that I know and love,” he said. “Pretty much there’s none of us that has not been affected by Alzheimer’s and right now, there’s no cure, there’s no treatment and there needs to be. And there will be.”

The Ride to Remember raised approximately $600,000 last year. This year, participants hope to raise $1 million dollars.
