MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – An incident report from Horry County police provides insight on what possibly motivated a St James Middle School student to make threats against the school this week.

According to police, a 13-year-old boy was arrested and charged with disturbing schools after he reportedly made threats toward St James Middle School Wednesday.

The report states officers were called to the school at 10 a.m. Wednesday to meet with an administrator.

The administrator said he received complaints from students about the teen making threats to shoot up the school and a teacher had also provided a digital drawing done by the 13-year-old depicting a person “holding a gun shooting and a person running away from the gunfire.”

Other students reported the 13-year-old had conversations with others about school shootings and attempting to make bombs and harm other students, the incident report says.

The administrator speaking with police also noted he encountered a similar situation with the teen during the 2016/ 2017 school year, which the 13-year-old was disciplined for by the school. When the school official talked to the student, the teen said “he thought he could meet friends by being violent.”

According to the incident report, police interviewed the student with his father present and the teen admitted to the drawing and the conversations with other students. The student told police “he often gets bullied at school and doesn’t have many friends,” according to the report.

Police say the child was charged and released to the custody of his father. The father also advised there are no guns in the home and nothing to make bombs with.
