MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The Myrtle Beach “metropolitan area”, which includes Myrtle Beach, Conway, and North Myrtle Beach, is the second fastest growing “metropolitan area” in the United States, according to new population estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau.
The Myrtle Beach area grew by 3.7 percent between 2016 and 2017, the data said. Myrtle Beach was also ranked second in 2016.
St. George, Utah, ranked as the fastest growing metropolitan area in the country, jumping from ninth place.
The Myrtle Beach area had a population of 464,165 people in 2017.
The growth has presented challenges to leaders of police departments and schools, among others, who are struggling to find funding for infrastructure and personnel to accommodate more people.
