FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Florence police released Tuesday night video of a constable shooting a man during a traffic stop.
The constable, identified by the mayor as Christopher Bachochin, was riding with a Florence police officer Saturday night. In the video, the police officer said they pulled the man over for crossing the center line on the road. The officer also said he smelled marijuana.
The officer repeatedly asked the man to get out of the car and the man’s car began to move away. The constable fired eight shots at him, 12th circuit solicitor Ed Clements said. News13 doesn’t know the number of times the man was hit, but SLED said he was released from the hospital Monday night.
After the constable and officer left the scene, the constable said “The [expletive] about ran over me.”
Mayor Stephen Wukela said the video was “troubling,” but could not comment further on whether the constable followed Florence police policies.
Dash cam and body cam videos were sent to the SLED lab for a frame-by-frame analysis, Clements said, and SLED’s also working to speak with anyone who may have seen the shooting.
Clements told News13 he would review all of the evidence and decide whether anyone should be charged. Prosecutors commonly review evidence when officers shoot someone.
