CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – The owner of Patty’s Dew Drop Inn in Surfside Beach was arrested Thursday for tax evasion.
A release from South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) Agents says Patricia Nuth was jailed on four counts of tax evasion. Nuth underreported gross proceeds of sales on the business sales tax returns and evaded paying more than $18,000 in taxes, according to the report.
From January 2013 to August 2016, Nuth filed fraudulent sales tax returns for her business, which reportedly brought in $204,598 in revenue. The SCDOR investigation found the business actually grossed $462,283 in the same time period. The discrepancy allowed Nuth to avoid paying $18,038 in taxes to the state.
Nuth is currently being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. If convicted, she faces fines up to $10,000 and/or up to five years in prison per count.
