At their meeting Tuesday, Horry County Council approved a new sand mine just outside Conway.
The mine would be open 6:00 a.m. through 9:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
The property is in Horry County about 11 miles west of Conway on Hwy 378.
According to county documents, the new mine would go 150 ft. from two small properties with mobile homes on them, one belonging to the mine’s property owner.
20 property owners were notified of the proposal in mid-April.
“Sand will be used for cover, could be sold to Solid Waste Authority,” Chairman Mark Lazarus said. “Could be used for building pads for houses. There’s a big need, as our building boom is taking place, for dirt and sand.”
Council previously approved a mine on the site in 2010. After operations were completed at that mine, the land was turned into a pond.
