LATTA, SC (WBTW) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported a fatal crash on Interstate 95 North Wednesday morning. According to the agency’s online reporting system, the crash happened at 2:53 a.m. near mile marker 177, about two miles north of the Great Pee Dee River.
Cpl. Sonny Collins with highway patrol says the crash involved a car and two pedestrians. A Kia hit and killed two people who were walking near the road.
The victims have been identified as Julius Watson III, 57, and Heather Watson, 35, both of Plant City, Florida.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation tweeted just after 3 a.m. that all northbound lanes of the interstate were blocked. Lanes were blocked for roughly four hours as crews cleared the scene. Shortly after 7 a.m., SCDOT reported lanes were reopened.

Early morning travelers on Interstate 95 north of Florence were urged to exit at Hwy. 327 (Williston Rd.) and travel west on Williston Rd./Georgetown Road to Hwy. 34/Cashua Ferry Rd., then travel north to Hwy. 38 and turn east to return to I-95.
Cpl. Collins says no charges will be filed against the driver as the pedestrians were in the road illegally.
