BOONE, N.C. – In a game scheduled to be played Thursday, was not started until Friday and finished on Saturday, Coastal Carolina defeated Appalachian State, 10-4, as Lee Sponseller and Keaton Weisz each drove in three.

The game started two hours late (2 pm Friday) and went into a rain delay at 4:22 pm after Coastal batted in the sixth and leading 7-4. After continued heavy rain, the game was suspended and resumed Saturday at 11:57 am.

Coastal struck first, scoring two in the two in the top of the second. Zach Biermann hit a leadoff single and Kieton Weisz followed with a bunt single. After a Lee Sponseller sacrifice bunt, Parker Chavers brought home Biermann with an RBI ground out. On the next pitch, Keaton Weisz lined an RBI single to right field to drive in Rivers.

App State tied the game, 2-2, in the bottom of the second. The Mountaineers loaded the bases with no outs. Jason Bilous looked like he might escape, getting a 1-2-3 double play. The next batter, Beau Myers, hit a soft liner just beyond the reach of Cory Wood to score two.

The Chants used a similar formula to score two again in the fourth. Biermann started the frames with another single to center and Rivers followed with another bunt single. Two batters later, Weisz delivered a single past the third baseman to plate both Biermann and Rivers for a 4-2 lead.

Coastal pushed its lead to 7-2 with three runs in the fifth. Cory Wood drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a balk. Seth Lancaster then singled to right-center field to bring home Wood. The Chants would load the bases after both Kevin Woodall Jr., and Zach Biermann were hit by pitches. Lee Sponseller plated Lancaster with an RBI groundout and Chavers followed with an RBI single to right field.

The Mountaineers took advantage of an error to score two unearned runs and cut into their deficit in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 7-4. CJ Brown started the home half by reaching on an error. Bailey Welch singled through the right side. Alex Leshock then doubled off the right field fence to score Brown. Davie Inman entered and got a strikeout before Welch scored on a groundout. Inman responded with a strikeout to end the inning.

Inman (1-2) would get the win as he allowed one walk and struck out two in his one inning of scoreless. Baseball. When the game resumed Saturday, Matt Eardensohn took the mound and worked the final three innings to get his sixth save of the season. It was his third, four-inning save of the season as he did not allow a hit, walked one and struck out three.

In the ninth, Coastal pushed its lead to 10-4 with three runs. Matt Beaird had a leadoff single and moved to second on a Lancaster walk. Beaird took third on an attempted pick off at first and scored when Woodall lined an RBI single to left field. Coastal loaded the bases after Kieton Rivers was hit by a pitch and looped a two-run single down the left field line to score Lancaster and Woodall.
