SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Surfside Beach police say an officer’s cruiser was hit early Monday morning by a driver who likely fell asleep at the wheel.
A post to the Surfside Beach Police Department Facebook page shows photos from the crash. The department says the crash happened early Monday morning when an officer was conducting a DUI investigation.
The officer was out of the vehicle and wasn’t hurt when the other car crashed into the rear of the cruiser. Police say it’s believed the driver who hit the police car fell asleep at the wheel. No serious injuries were reported.
The department reminds drivers that traffic stops are a dangerous time for police officers so drivers should remember to “move over” to keep everyone safe.
