The man who would’ve been charged in a crash between his pickup truck and two Robeson County school buses has died.
North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper RM Hunt says 20-year-old Samuel Ray Hunt, of Lumberton, was charged with reckless driving and having fictitious plates. Hunt died from injuries sustained in the crash at McLeod Hospital in Florence on Monday.
Trooper Hunt also says the crash happened on State Road 1318 near Red Springs. The busses were traveling west on the road and the truck was traveling east when the truck crossed the center line and hit the first bus. The second bus then hit the first bus.
Robeson County Schools spokesperson Tasha Oxendine says the first bus was carrying students from Oxendine Elementary and the second bus was carrying students from Peterson Elementary, Red Springs Middle School, and Red Springs High School. One bus driver and one student were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
