CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Horry County’s school district is trying to figure out what three projects worth an estimated $40 million will look like.

The board for Horry County Schools decided at a meeting Monday night to officially start looking for someone to design the three “priority projects.”

HCS wants to build a replacement to the Horry County Education Center, also called “the alternative school,” for $13 million. The district is also looking at renovating and adding on to Aynor Middle School for an estimated $19,669,086. The other project is a facility for transportation, along with storing records and science kits, which would cost an estimated $7,850,660.

The next step for HCS is to hire the right architect to show what the projects will look like.

“We’ll prequalify them, then we’ll get into the details, where we look at their bids and so forth,” said HCS board interim chair Neil James. “The schools that we’ve identified as next on the list were some from our previous five-year plan. They were the next in line.”

James says there’s no timeline yet for when they will choose an architect.
