KINSTON, N.C. (July 16, 2018) – Alex Lange fired five shutout innings and Yeiler Pegueroadded a pair of hits Monday as the Myrtle Beach Pelicans swept the Down East Wood Ducks with a 2-0 victory to extend their winning streak to six games from Grainger Stadium.
Lange (6-6) whiffed six Wood Ducks (44-52, 9-17) in his five frames, allowing only three hits for the Pelicans (46-49, 12-13).
In the second inning, the Pelicans struck first against Down East starter Steven Bruce (3-6) with an RBI single from Peguero, scoring Roberto Caro .
In the eighth, the Birds loaded the bases for Jared Young , who singled through the right side to plate Andruw Monasterio and give the Birds a 2-0 advantage.
Manuel Rondon took the hill after Lange for the Birds, throwing two shutout innings. Jhon Romero then came on in the eighth and recorded the final six outs for his ninth save of the season.
Following an off day on Tuesday, the Pelicans begin a six-game homestand at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday with a three-game set against the Potomac Nationals.
