NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — The City of North Myrtle Beach approved a resolution to appoint a COVID-19 Economic Recovery Task Force at a meeting Monday evening.
Businesses are looking for a safe ‘welcome back’ for customers. Twelve task force members involved in the North Myrtle Beach business community will focus on economic recovery.
The North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce along with medical professionals will serve as guidance to re-opening. Task Force leaders will point businesses towards resources such as grants, loans, or other financial assistance.
The goal is to create a ‘marketing strategy’ while providing businesses with re-opening advice.
“What kind of message do you want us to continue to pass on to our customers and families wanting to come to North Myrtle Beach?” Duplin Winery Owner Jonathon Fussell asks as he’s ready to welcome in his long lost customers.
After nearly a month of shut down, Fussell and neighboring businesses can turn to the task force for advice to reopen.
“We think it’s good to have input from all businesses and important that we hear from our citizens also,” North Myrtle Beach Mayor Marilyn Hatley says.
The city’s chamber of commerce president and CEO, Cheryl Kilday, is looking at all the re-opening factors.
“We need to not shame people for deciding to go out and we need to not shame people for deciding to stay in,” Kilday said.
The resolution stated the task force will provide recommendations within 30 days of the initial meeting. Members will provide monthly updates for the following 120 days. The City Council may extend task force efforts based on the public’s response.
Task Force members have not been yet been chosen. The council will meet on Tuesday to discuss further plans. Count on News13 to keep you updated as we learn more.
