Last night’s storm caused a headache for residents all throughout Florence. Large amount of rainfall flooded the roadways, leaving people stranded inside their homes.
One man says the house in the corner of his neighborhood gets affected every time a storm passes through.
“It affects a lot of people down there. I don’t know how far that goes, it looks pretty far. I imagine it gets about two to three foot deep right there in the middle,” said Coley Poston.
The on and off rain created rivers in the roads causing cars to submerge. The Savannah Grove Baptist Church on alligator road was severely affected after its steeple was blown over. Another church had a few inches of water inside. Luckily, workers were clearing the area before more rainfall hits.
One resident says the storm kept them awake all through the night.
“I mean the house was shaking pretty regularly,” said Jonathan McKnight.
Even with all the rain and debris this hasn’t stopped residents from helping one another.
“We try to stick together. This is a neighborhood where a lot of people know each other and we try to come out when something like this happens. We want to help people clean up just so they don’t have to do it themselves,” says McKnight.
The rain is expected to continue for the rest of the week.
