LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – As part of Hurricane Matthew recovery, Robeson County is now getting the first federal funds from a particular disaster assistance fund. The money comes from the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Housing Program (CDBGDRHP).
The county announced last week that a home on Old Whiteville Rd. in the Lumberton area is the first home to get repairs through that particular allotment of federal money. The repairs began Friday according to county spokesperson Emily Jones.
In a press release Robeson County Manager Ricky Harris was said to be “encouraged to see the results of all the hard work and hopes to see many more families’ homes restored.” The housing program is vital to help families get back to normal.
NC Emergency Management said other federal money has already helped with some recovery in Robeson County and other parts of the state. Now that money from the CDBGDRHP is available there will be a noticeable uptick in more rebuilding projects.
The Rebuild NC Application Center located at 405 Dunn Road in Lumberton, NC is still accepting applications if your home was damaged by Hurricane Matthew. For more information you can visit rebuild.nc.gov.
It has been nearly a year and ten months since Hurricane Matthew hit the Carolinas. News13 previously reported on why it regularly takes about two years for federal HUD money to be available for rebuilding after a natural disaster.
