One person is in custody after a bank robbery in Myrtle Beach.

Cpl. Thomas Vest, with the Myrtle Beach Police Department, says one man is in custody following a bank robbery around 12:30 p.m. at the PNC Bank at 2513 North Oak Street.

According to Myrtle Beach P2C booking information, Donald Ragan Slattery, 45, is charged with public intoxication and robbery/entering a bank, depository or building and loan association.

Slattery appeared in court on Tuesday afternoon for the robbery charge and received a $150,000 bond. The judge in the case confirmed Slattery was under the influence of alcohol when the robbery happened. He will appear in court on Wednesday at 10 a.m. for the public intoxication charge.

According to Vest, police received a call at 12:34 p.m. with a report of a bank robbery. The first officer responded to the scene within two minutes and several other officers responded. The suspect was found and taken into custody. The suspect will remain in custody pending formal charges.

Funds from the bank were recovered and the scene is secure, Vest also says. Officers remain at the bank completing an investigation.

A police report from the department says officers responded and spoke with a victim, who said a suspect wearing black shorts, a t-shirt, a baseball hat, black glasses, and a black book bag came into the bank and asked for money. The suspect then took the money and left the bank on foot.

“This is a great example of the collaboration between our community and our police”, said Chief Amy Prock. “We received an excellent description from the community, and our officers quickly took action.”
