GEORGETOWN, SC (WBTW) – A newborn baby girl is in state custody after the infant was abandoned on Wednesday.
Georgetown County Department of Social Services officials report that an infant was born Aug. 22, and placed under the protection of Safe Haven with medical professionals at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital.
According to the department of social services, the child falls under the jurisdiction for “Daniel’s Law,” the Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act. Baby Doe is a white female weighing 6 pounds and 4 ounces and is 19.5 inches long. The child is now in DSS custody.
Under the Safe Haven Act, a permanency planning hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Georgetown County Family Court, 401 Cleland St., Georgetown, SC 29440.
