MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Now that the Labor Day weekend is over, some beach rules are temporarily changing.
In Myrtle Beach, from Memorial Day to Labor Day, dogs are only allowed on the beach before 10 a.m. and after 5 p.m. After Labor Day, dogs will be allowed on the beach at any time, since the season is expected to begin winding down. City officials still require you to pick up after your pets.
Only umbrellas were allowed during the prime season, and those must be in line with or behind lifeguard stands. In addition to dogs and umbrellas being allowed on the beach, people are able to bring their tents and canopies back out as well.
“Of course the reason for all this is because the crowds won’t be as bad as they are during the peak season,” said Lack’s Beach Service beach manager, Wes Cox. “We try to fluctuate the ordinances to compromise everybody due to the safety factor and the size of the crowds we have out here.”
We also spoke with people who look forward to more relaxed rules on the beach after Labor Day. “After the season is winding down, we’re able to bring our tents out, and come out with family and friends, and our dog, and just have a good time,” said Leanne and Daniel.
