CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Both lanes of Highway 501 northbound, into Conway, are closed due to the flood prevention project being completed by SCDOT. Southbound traffic is limited to one lane over the bridge.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation and its Team South Carolina partners will begin work on two locations of US 378 in the Pee Dee region on Sunday.
- US 378 at Lynches River, approximately two miles east of Lake City.
- The US 378 interchange at the US 501 Bypass in Conway.
The construction of these barriers is expected to be complete by Monday evening, but the lanes will be closed until further notice. SCDOT says without the flood-prevention structure, floodwaters are expected to overtop the bridges by Tuesday.
Northbound traffic is being diverted to Highway 501 business. In addition, southbound traffic is limited to one lane over the bridge.
Motorists that need to travel northbound are encouraged to use SC 31 to SC 22 to continue on Highway 501 north. Highway 501 Business is not an approved truck route, trucks must use SC 31 to SC 22 as well.
