The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is back on the beach along the Grand Strand.
Crews are set to resume renourishment projects put on hold due to Hurricane Florence.
First, crews need to find out how much work, if any, they’ll need to re-do, and they’ll use a vehicle called the “rambler” to do that.
The ATV is equipped with sensors that take precise measurements of how much sand is on the beach to determine the amount of erosion caused by the storm.
“Now that the storm has passed, it’s time to evaluate how much sand was eroded from the beaches up and down the coastline, and then get our construction folks back out here to replenish the beaches,” Brig. Gen. Diana Holland, a commander in the South Atlantic division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, says.
The Army Corps’ Storm Damage Reduction Project includes more than sand on the beach. Officials say the sand dunes. grass, and fences are all a part of the engineering design.
