Volunteers from Louisiana and Dillon County gathered on Thursday to serve free food for the community.
Two men from Baton Rouge decided to help out victims and first responders after Hurricane Florence flooded several homes.
“We have been through the flooding before. My brother-in-law had almost 5 feet of water in his house,” said volunteer, Mark Juneau.
Hurricane Katrina destroyed thousands of homes back in 2005, and the volunteers want to give a hand to those in need.
“We’re doing a Cajun Pastalaya, which is similiar to a Jambalaya, but just with the pasta,” said Juneau.
Another volunteer who has been helping out since Wednesday, decided to give residents and workers a different type of food.
“We’ve been doing something that will keep the people happy and keep them going,” said Derrick Graves.
Derrick said he plans to head up to Lumberton on Friday morning and give families a hot meal they can enjoy.
“Everybody needs to be working together, and not fighting against each other,” said Graves.
The volunteers from Louisiana will be back at the Dillon County Fire Department on Friday starting at noon.
