FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – A Florence woman created a tribute video for Sergeant Terrence Carraway with the City of Florence Police Department.

Ashley Hyatt said Sergeant Carraway impacted her life even though she didn’t know him.

“It was my own way of expressing my condolences to his friends and family,” Hyatt told News13.

Hyatt said Florence is a close-knit community, and was shocked to hear an officer had been killed and six others had been shot.

“It’s always been such a quiet little community,” she said. “Something like this; you couldn’t believe it happened.”

Hyatt said she wanted to make video to honor the officer killed in the line of duty.

“People need to see the face of bravery, and what a true hero that man was,” she said about Carraway. “Whenever you look at Terrence Carraway, to me, I see bravery,” she continued. “I want his face to reach all over because he deserves that.”

The video Hyatt created has been viewed more than 150,000 times, and has more than 4,000 shared on social media.

“I hope that it touches people, and helps them see how important he was to not only Florence, but Darlington, and so on,” said Hyatt.

Hyatt said she heard stories about Carraway that made her feel like she knew him.

“You hear all this stuff that he did for children and people he worked with, his co-workers his family,” she explained. “With not even knowing him personally it was obvious that he would do anything for anybody.”

Hyatt said she hopes her video will bring out a greater appreciation for law enforcement.

“This tragedy left a hole in this town’s heart that I don’t think will ever be complete again,” she said. “It’s important to respect the people who put their lives on the line every day for us.”
