FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – The Florence man accused of sexually molesting a child for over a year is now charged in another sex-related crime against a different child.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says Seth David Hopkins, 28, of Florence, was originally charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a child between 11 and 14 years of age. Further investigation reveals a second child was also allegedly sexually assaulted by Hopkins.

A release Friday states Hopkins is now charged with criminal sexual conduct first degree for sexually molesting a child under 11 years of age. Sheriff Lott says the sexual assault reportedly took place in a Florence home between 2009 and 2010.

The alleged child molester is the son of Frederick T. Hopkins, Jr., the man charged with murder and six counts of attempted murder following the Oct. 3 shooting of seven Florence law enforcement officers.

Sheriff Lott says the three wounded Florence County deputies are still in the hospital. Two remain in critical condition and the other has been updated to stable condition. The City of Florence police officer is still in the hospital.

The FBI Evidence Response Team and RCSD’s Crime Scene Unit are continuing to process the scene.
