DARLINGTON, SC (WBTW) – The Darlington County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the woman shot and killed by deputies in an exchange of gunfire.
The shooting happened Saturday morning around 8:45 a.m. on Clyde School Road.
Lt. Robert Kilgo with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office says the woman, who has been identified as Kimberly Norris, 35, of Hartsville, was walking erratically in a yard when a person stopped to check on her. She told that person that her father had been shot. The individual called 911 and deputies were dispatched.
Before deputies arrived, Norris reportedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at the person who had stopped and demanded him out of the car.
When deputies arrived, Norris pointed her gun at them, Lt. Kilgo states, and there was an exchange of gunfire. The woman was struck and deputies were able to get the gun away from her.
No deputies were injured in the exchange.
Upon investigation, it was found that the Norris’ father had not been shot and was not even home at the time. Darlington County Sheriff Tony Chavis requested SLED investigate the incident.
