A man has been arrested and charged after a weekend shooting in Darlington County.

A press release from the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office says 19-year-old Dre Glorvun Nazier Hampton, of Florence, was arrested in the case. He is charged with murder for the Saturday night shooting death of a Florence man.

“Investigators went to work immediately collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses,” Sheriff Tony Chavis stated in the press release. “We quickly arrested this suspect because of the investigators’ diligent work, and I appreciate the assistance of the US Marshals Service with locating Hampton.”

“According to Sheriff Chavis, investigators believe Hampton, while on Welling Farm Rd, did shoot the victim with intent to kill and malice aforethought causing the victim’s death,” the press release says. “Investigators are seeking additional charges. Investigators are being assisted by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s Forensic Services unit.”

According to the press release, bond was denied for Hampton on Monday morning by a Darlington County magistrate.

The shooting happened around 11:20 p.m. on Saturday, according to Lt. Robert Kilgo with the DCSO. One person was shot and driven from the scene to a convenience store parking lot at Timmonsville Highway and Hoffmeyer Road. The person died from his injuries.

Darlington County Coroner J. Todd Hardee identified the victim as 18-year-old Jerome Jalik Robinson, of Florence.
