FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – The annual ‘Lights 4 Paws’ event that benefits the Florence area Humane Society will have a preview weekend that starts on Friday.

Lights 4 Paws is a quarter mile walk-through trail light show with more than 300,000 lights, and stuffed animals for people to enjoy during the holiday season.

“There’s so many animals that come into our shelter, and the thing is a lot of them come in with injuries or they’re sick,” said President Florence Area Humane Society, Jayne Boswell. “So they need a lot of care, and especially medicine and veterinary care so the money that we bring in from Lights 4 Paws helps us meet those needs.”

Ross and Darlene Shotts have hosted the event in the front yard of their home for three years.

“I just think it’s great for the community to come out and support all we do to take care of these animals,” Boswell told News13. “There’s just so many needs and it’s a wonderful event and it’s a great way to help out, and make sure that our animals get good homes”

The Shotts said the event has raised several thousand dollars in the past, and have hot chocolate, cookies, and treats for the animals.

“There is always a need for food,” Boswell said about donations. “Kitten food, cat food, puppy food, dog food, horse feed,” she continued. “We love to have people come out and volunteer and donate your times as well.”

There will be a spot for donations to the Florence Humane Society at the event, and the Shotts say that pets are allowed, but must be on a leash.

The light show trail is at 3251 Mears Drive in Florence and will run from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m this weekend. It will have its preview weekend Fri. Nov. 30 until Dec. 2, and will fully open Dec. 6 through Dec. 25.
