CHERAW, S.C. (AP) – DNA has led to an arrest in the case of a South Carolina jogger who was assaulted and choked while running in September.

News outlets report 32-year-old Eric Demond Davis was arrested Thursday on charges of aggravated assault and kidnapping. A statement by Cheraw police says physical evidence from the Sept. 7 attack puts Davis at the scene and DNA evidence collected from the victim confirmed he was the attacker. He was out on bond on an assault charge at the time.

Responding officers arrived to find a woman who had been “in a fight for her life” and managed to get help from a passing motorist. Police Chief W. Keith Thomas tells WSOC-TV that the woman was knocked to the ground from behind and choked. She was later hospitalized.
