CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – The city is getting ready for a road project that will close a major way into downtown for months.

The Main Street bridge takes traffic on U.S. Highway 501 Business into downtown Conway, but the busy bridge will likely be worked on for about half of 2019. State DOT crews will begin construction on the bridge starting January 7. At Monday’s city council meeting, city administrator Adam Emrick gave an update on the plans.

The bridge will be closed through March 31, but Emrick says work will continue after that and could last through the end of June.

“There may still be some limited lane closures as they do some painting and do some repairs here and there,” Emrick said. “They are going to try to time those to minimize the impact to traffic after the March 31st deadline.”

Light poles have already been removed from the bridge, but they’re being renovated and will be added back after the project is complete.
