Around 6 p.m., MBFD tweeted that the fire was under control and will be under investigation.
A police report from the Myrtle Beach Police Department says police also responded to the scene. According to the report, the fire captain told an officer the fire appeared to be suspicious based on the lack of food in the kitchen, nothing in the bathroom, and a sheet strewn in an unusual way on the bed for someone supposedly living in the unit.
Crime scene workers and a detective were called to investigate.
